The cleaner2greener™ initiative, which starts with Gas2Wire can deliver on all three of the levers set out in the IGU report:
• On cost competitiveness, we are driving efficiencies by streamlining the process of extracting natural gas and using it to power homes, businesses, electric cars and industry. By promoting and maximising the recovery of ‘local’ gas for power generation, we intend to alleviate reliance on imports to cut-back emissions further.
• On security of supply, rather than gas networks, our approach will enhance power transmission networks and associated infrastructure in support of renewables, which is similarly needed to improve the security of supply. In this regard, we have a seemingly unique commercial model and will provide a platform from which to use/pilot cleaner and greener equipment and technologies in the offshore environment.
• On sustainability, we envision that gas powered generation need be the only back-up and baseload provider required to supplement renewables by 2050 and we will help achieve this target. Also, whilst immature from a commercial standpoint, if this can similarly be said of transportation fuels, by supporting/facilitating the generation of green hydrogen alongside power generation operations, we will look to implement this, fully recognising its potential to further reduce urban air pollution.
